In de Wetenschap: Special podcast on women in academia (in Dutch)
In de Wetenschap (In Science) is the podcast of the University of Groningen (UG). To usher in the Aletta year, the UG launches a special podcast about women in science on Tuesday, April 20. In this episode Arjen Dijkstra and Tina Kretschmer receive guests Marian Joëls, Janka Stoker and Anne-Men Huijzer.
It is exactly 150 years ago that Aletta Jacobs registered as the first female student at the University of Groningen, with special permission from Prime Minister Thorbecke. Many women have been able to follow in her footsteps. However, female access to key positions is still a current theme today, in 2021. Marian Joëls discusses this theme in her book Baanbreeksters, in which she interviews twelve ‘first women’ about their way to the top. In honor of the launch of her book as well as the start of the Aletta Year, both on April 20, Arjen Dijkstra and Tina Kretschmer will talk with their guests about the theme of ‘women in academia’.
The guests
The presentation duo of the podcast consists of the Head of the University Museum Arjen Dijkstra and Tina Kretschmer, associate professor in the Department of Pedagogical and Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. They will interview Janka Stoker, Professor of Leadership and Organizational Change, and Marian Joëls, Dean in the Faculty of Medical Sciences/UCMG who wrote the book Baanbreeksters. The final guest in this special podcast is Anne-Men Huijzer, PhD student in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The UG's next special podcast on women in academia will be launched on Wednesday, April 28. Arjen Dijkstra and Tina Kretchmer receive Rector Magnificus Cisca Wijmenga, Amina Helmi, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Andrea Meagher. Andrea Meagher is student at the University of Groningen and currently doing a Master in Curatorial Studies in Art History at the Faculty of Arts. She also works for the University Museum.
