National activities: Since 2000, Prof. Wijmenga has served in numerous capacities for research organisations within the Netherlands. From 2018–2019, she was a board member of ZonMW, the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Developmet. She has also served the Netherlands Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) as the chair of the selection committee for vice-president (2017–2019), as a member of the selection committee for new members (2014–2017) and as a member of the selection committee for the Young Dutch Academy of Sciences (2013, 2014). She served as programme leader (together with Prof. Rinse Weersma) of the 3GI program and of UMCG Research Institute GUIDE (2014–2019) and as and a member of the scientific advisory committee of the Dutch ALS foundation (2012–2019). She sat on the Netherlands Bioformatics Center (NBIC) Young Scientist Award committee (2011, 2012). She sat on the scientific advisory committee ‘Career Development Grant’ of the Dutch Digestive Disease Foundation (MLDS) from 2012-2015. She has been a member of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) committee on Biomolecular Informatics (2000–2003), member and chair of the NWO-MW VIDI committee (2001–2006), member of the NWO committee on Nutrition and Chronic Diseases (2002–2008), member of the NWO Research Institute for Diseases in the Elderly (RIDE) committee (2004–2009), member of the NWO Large Equipment committee (2007–2011) and member of the ZonMw TOP Grant committee (2008) and member of the interdisciplinary VIDI committee (2012–2013).

She is a co-PI of the Netherlands Organ-on-a-Chip Initiative (NOCI). She was previously project leader of GoNL (see article on the Genome of the Netherlands Project), co-leader of BBMRI-NL2.0 the NL-Biobank Research Facility under BBMRI-NL and leader of the Nutrition and Health project in the Top Institute for Food and Nutrition (TIFN).

Conference organizations: She is active in organizing national and international scientific congresses: she was a member of the programme committee of the Medical Scientific Day 2013 of the Dutch FMWV on ‘Next generation sequencing’ and has been joint organizer of the annual European Human Genetics Conference since 2007. She was co-organizer of the 13^th International meeting on Human Genome Variation and Complex Genome Analysis (HGV2012) (Shanghai, China 2012), of the XIII International Celiac Disease Symposium (Amsterdam, 2009) and of Systems Genetics: from man to microbe, from genotype to phenotype (Groningen, 2009 and 2011).

Her international activities include a part-time professorship at the University of Oslo since January 2016. Further they include being a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Estonian Genome Centre (2018–present), of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center (since 2015), of the International Genome Sample Resource Scientific Advisory Board (since 2015), of the ERC Consolidator Grant panel LS2D Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology (2017 – 2019), of the Physiology and Medicine Section of Academia Europaea (2014 – 2016), of the Cell Biology and Genetics committee of the Flemish Organization for Scientific Research (FWO), of the Fulbright selection committee for ‘Hard Sciences’ (2003) and of the 2008 review panel of the Helmholtz Programme on ‘Systemic Analysis of Multifactorial Diseases’, Germany. She was on the selection committee for the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2013 (Germany).

Her teaching activities include BSc and MSc courses to the Medical faculty, Groningen, to University College Groningen, and to the Leena Peltonen School of Human Genomics, Cambridge, UK (2012–2019). She has also given a two-week course on Complex genetics at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil (2013) and a course on Complex disease genetics to the European School of Medical Genetics, Bertinoro, Italy (2014).
