Press coverage for elife article 'Addressing the ethical issues raised by synthetic human entities with embryo-like features'
In a new eLIFE article entitled, Addressing the ethical issues raised by synthetic human entities with embryo-like features , philosopher and ethicist Jeantine Lunshof (Dept. of Genetics, UMCG and Harvard Medical School) and her co-authors argue for new guidelines in synthetic biology and stem cell research. With advances in synthetic tissue research, these tissues have begun to show signs similar to those used to guide embryo research, an shift that indicates the need for new dialogue and new guidelines. For more details see the eLIFE article and press releases from Harvard Medical School and the UMCG (in Dutch).
The article appeared on March 21st and was covered extensively in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and National Public Radio.
