Synaptic Circuits and Functions in Bio-inspired Integrated Architectures: doctoral diploma awarded to PhD candidate Ole Richter

24 October 2024
Ole is awarded his doctoral diploma after a successful defence

PhD candidate Ole Richter has been awarded his doctoral degree after defending his thesis, Synaptic Circuits and Functions in Bio-inspired Integrated Architectures, in the Academy Building on 15 October 2024.

Ole’s research focused on examining the design of hardware components and systems to establish a technological foundation for the application of future breakthroughs in the intersection of AI and neuroscience. His work explores all steps to create a custom chip and advances state-of-the-art mixed-signal subthreshold integrated design for neurosynaptic systems. It also integrates a vision sensor with an asynchronous digital convolutional network processing pipeline. Lastly, it emphasizes the need for a robust, future-proof base for bio-inspired design and the potential for asynchronous stream processor architectures.

His defence went well, and he masterly answered the tough questioning from the commission.

CogniGron is proud to have had Ole as part of its research team, where he contributed to the development of a blueprint for future-proof computing, and we are excited to hear that he will start as an Assistant Professor at the Technical University Denmark in the department DTU Compute in spring next year. We wish him all the best on his adventure in Denmark!

Congratulations to Ole and to his supervisors, Elisabetta Chicca and Herbert Jaeger, for an excellent thesis.
