Computational Mathematics

At CogniGron, we are delighted to welcome Guanglian Li to our team. She contributes greatly  with her experience, knowledge and skills in the field of computational mathematics.

Guanglian Li has been appointed on the first of July as an Assistant Professor at the Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and she will be part of the research center for Cognitive Systems and Materials (CogniGron) at the University of Groningen. Her research lies in numerical analysis, multiscale modeling and analysis and high-dimensional approximation, with applications in porous media, metamaterial and uncertainty quantification.

She obtained her PhD from Texas A&M University, College Station in May 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Yalchin Efendiev. During her PhD she focused on Multiscale model reduction for high-contrast flow problems. After her PhD Guanglian Li became a Hausdorff postdoctoral fellow at the Cluster of Excellence: Hausdorff Centre for Mathematics, University of Bonn, Germany. She stayed there from June 2015 till January 2018. Before moving to Groningen, she was a Newton International Fellow awarded by the Royal Society based at Imperial College London (January 2018- December 2019).

Being part of the research initiative CogniGron she will also use her expertise to not only facilitate the development of new efficient numerical algorithms treating large numbers of molecules, but also bridge the multiple scales, which is of great importance in Computational modeling of molecules, systems and mechanics.

At CogniGron are looking forward seeing the first results.
