Inaugural lecture
In September 2014, Klaas R. Timmermans was appointed Honorary Professor of Marine Plant Biomass at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Groningen within the Ocean Ecosystems Research Group. This position involves conducting fundamental and innovative applied research into microalgae, seaweeds and salt-tolerant plants on the land. He is a researcher at the Royal Nederlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ). Professor Timmermans is involved in the master programme Marine Biology. In particular he will run the new master course Marine Ecosystem Services and Global Change.
Now Ocean Ecosystems is proud to announce Klaas will give his inaugural lecture entitled "Wier zoekt boer: naar duurzame marien plantaardige biomassa!" on Tuesday the 10th of November 2015, to give an overview of his contribution to his field.
On behalf of the Rector Magnificus, Ocean Ecoystems hereby cordially invites interested individuals to attend the inaugural lecture.

Mini-symposium
Prior to his inaugural lecture, Klaas will organize the mini-symposium "Marine plant biomass research: from curiosity to cure" . Several national and international speakers from the field will present their work during this morning.
