Theo Woudstra Receives Royal Decoration
Last week, ESRIG employee Theo Woudstra was appointed as a Member in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
Mr. Woudstra has been doing volunteer work in Delft for many years. First at the district congregation Vierhoven and now at the district congregation lmmanuël. He has been a deacon, member of the church council and pastoral visitation worker, among other things. He volunteered as a social worker at the Foundation for Emergency Refugee Care in Delft.
At Johanniter Hulpgroep Delft, he offers help to people on benefits, to the elderly and to new Dutch citizens with a residence permit. For example, he helps with reading letters and goes along to school for meetings about the children.
Mr. Woudstra is treasurer of Creating Hope in Society. This is a foundation that promotes welfare for vulnerable people in the Ugandan district of Kampala. He housed several refugees and is even still in contact with a family whose child calls him "grandpa". He opens his home to students and others who temporarily lack housing.
Mr. Woudstra does not stop and continues his important and meaningful work for the city. He continues to look out for others, has an eye for the hidden, sees those who need help and helps those who have no helper. He does his work as a humble, exceptionally helpful man.
