Professor Nasser Kalantar-Nayestanaki new ESRIG Director

On 15 September 2022, professor Harro A.J. Meijer handed over his responsibility as Director of ESRIG to professor Nasser Kalantar-Nayestanaki.
Professor Harro A.J. Meijer, founder of ESRIG, has been director for 12 years. In that period, ESRIG has grown into a mature research institute with now six base units and 14 professors and associate professors, and more to come soon. Professor Harro A.J. Meijer will continue to be the head of the CIO and in that role remain a member of the board of ESRIG.
Professor Nasser Kalantar-Nayestanaki, head of the nuclear energy group, has agreed to take the responsibility as ESRIG’s new Director, and has been appointed by the Faculty Board for a regular period of three years.
Although relatively new to ESRIG (board member for the last two years), professor Nasser Kalantar is a long time member of the University of Groningen, for almost 30 years now. Thanks to his role as member of the Local Consultative Committee, he knows all structures and managers of our university inside out. He was also a board member of KVI-CART for many years before joining ESRIG.
