We are very happy to report that Dr Nima Monshizadeh has been promoted by the Executive Board of the University to Associate Professor in Cyber-Physical Human Systems. Many congratulations to Nima!

Nima Monshizadeh received his Ph.D. degree with honors (cum laude) from the Johann Bernoulli Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Groningen. Previously, he served as a Research Associate with the control group at the University of Cambridge before returning to Groningen as a tenure-track assistant professor in ENTEG. He has also held visiting scholar positions at ETH Zurich (2015) and UCLA in Los Angeles (2018). Currently, Nima serves as an associate editor of Automatica (since 2020) and is a member of the IEEE Conference Editorial Board (since 2020). In 2021, he was awarded the NWO Open Competition grant in the Science domain.

Nimas primary research area focuses on the optimization and control of Cyber Physical Human Systems (CPHS). Conventionally, humans have been seen as independent entities that consume, use, or operate cyber-physical systems (CPS). However, this perspective is evolving, with humans expected to play a more active role in these systems, resulting in fully intertwined and complex cyber-physical human systems (CPHS). Nima, alongside his team, strives to develop innovative methods and solutions that facilitate the transition to cyber-physical human systems. Dynamic information design, game-theoretic market mechanisms, and privacy-aware control and optimization are among the key tools utilized to achieve this goal. The energy domain serves as the primary application venue to showcase the theoretical findings of his research team.
