Introducing our new scientific staff member Soheil Solhjoo

Per September '24 Soheil Solhjoo joins the Engineering Systems and Design (ESD) group of ENTEG as an Assistant Professor with a focus on education. In this role, he will lead innovation in mechanical and industrial engineering education and establish his research in model-based engineering design, physics-based deep learning, and digital twins.
Before joining RUG, Soheil investigated the thermomechanical constitutive behavior of metals and the mechanical characterization of materials using compression tests. He then joined the Advanced Processing Engineering group at ENTEG, where he completed his PhD in 2017. His doctoral research focused on nanotribological studies, particularly in two key areas: (1) measuring the contact area in atomistic simulations and (2) evaluating the applicability of continuum mechanics theories in describing nanocontacts. As a postdoctoral researcher, Soheil collaborated with academic and industrial partners in two European projects, VMAP and UPSIM, where he contributed to the development of multi-scale material modeling, multi-parameter optimization methods, and a physics-informed data-driven hyperelastic material for soft biological tissues.
In addition to his research, Soheil has been an active lecturer and course coordinator, coordinating courses such as Mechanics for the BSc program in Industrial Engineering and Management and Advanced Processing for Complex Materials for the MSc program in Mechanical Engineering.
We welcome Soheil in our scientic community!
