Manual session chairs

Manual for session chairs and presenters -  PDF

PRESENTATIONS, CHAIRS, TIME-SLOTS, AND LANGUAGE

Length of presentations. All sessions last 90 minutes. The thematic sessions consist of three or four presentations in the first round and possibly five in the second round. The chairs are printed in italics in the schedule and, in consultation with the presenters, determine the number of minutes per presenter, including discussion time. This can take between 15 to 30 minutes. Sessions with five presentations in round 2 can last 10 minutes longer (until 13:10) to guarantee sufficient discussion time. Switching during sessions is not recommended due to the different length of presentation time.

Timekeeping by chairs. The task of the chairs is to help the presenters keeping track of time. If presenters overdue their time, the Q&A will be shorter. In the sessions where time is left, a closing discussion can be organized by the chair.

Preferred language. Presenters have indicated their preferred language which is indicated for each session. Contributions to the plenary session are in Dutch and English, the discussion is bilingual. Abram de Swaan's Dutch contribution will be translated into English for the Day of Sociology.
