Title: Early Detection and Prognostic Prediction of Cancer from Medical Images

Abstract:

The computer-aided analysis of medical images has been an interesting topic for decades within computer vision. Recent advances in machine learning, especially in deep learning, have brought revolutionary changes to health care.

In this talk, I will introduce three medical applications that aim at detecting abnormalities, segmenting organs, as well as predicting the outcomes of the treatment for lung and head and neck cancer. Within these applications, we developed automated systems that are based on deep learning techniques applied on computed tomography scans in order to assist physicians in their clinical practice. The proposed models showed potential to be beneficial to clinical procedures or guide clinical decision making - and I believe are worth further exploring.
