Title: Introduction to computational ethnomusicology
Abstract:
In this colloquium, it will be explained how folk music can be analyzed, modelled and classified. One of the most essential differences between folk music of Eastern countries and Western music is the frequencies used, and the distances between the notes. The main differences lie in the way the octave breaks down, where Eastern music has apparently more subdivisions than Western music. These differences have been identified and modeled using representative samples of each music.
