Multiple Criteria Decision Support in Software Architecture Pattern Selection

Abstract:

Software architecture patterns help software architects to design products based on the collective experience of skilled engineers. Patterns promote good design practice. Choosing the right set of architecture patterns is a critical issue in software production. We propose that software architecture pattern selection can be modelled as a multi-criteria decision-making problem that deals with the evaluation of a set of alternatives, based on a set of decision criteria. We are going to present a decision support framework that supports decision-makers in choosing the right set of compatible software architecture patterns based on their preferences and requirements.
