public academy Personal injury

An amateur football player who lost his lower leg and his job due to a tackle will not receive any compensation. When you participate in a sports competition, you are legally required to accept certain risks. Groningen residents who have been diagnosed with earthquake damage to their home twice are entitled to compensation for damages.

When exactly are you, as an injured party or victim, entitled to damages? And how is this amount determined? Are there 'American conditions' in the Netherlands? How are such decisions made?

This time the Public Academy is about personal injury. Professor and personal injury lawyer Arvin Kolder discusses personal injury in sports and games and explains how compensation is arranged in the Netherlands. Jeff Biesma, who as a senior judge handles many such cases, highlights how judicial decisions on personal injury arise and on what they depend.

The Public Academy for Jurisprudence

Through lectures aimed at the general public, the Publieksacademie voor de Rechtspraak (Public Academy for Jurisprudence) seeks to satisfy this immense interest. Judges, public prosecutors, professors and other experts discuss legal topics that affect many people. The lectures are suitable for a wide audience and do not require knowledge of the law.

The Public Academy is a collaboration between the Court of the Northern Netherlands, the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen, the Northern Netherlands Public Prosecution Service and the Dagblad van het Noorden newspaper.
