Aggression while going out is taking on more violent forms in the Northern Netherlands. Where it used to be limited to a brawl in the pub or on the street, stabbing or even shooting is now becoming more common. Why is this and what can we do about it? The Public Academy for the Judiciary zooms in on nightlife violence on 7 November. During this evening we will look at nightlife in the North with a legal lens, what seems to be going wrong there.
The speakers
Criminal Judge Fred Janssens talks about cases he handled on dating violence. What went on inside the perpetrators and what does it do to a victim when he gets hit in the pub? What punishments did he impose and why? Jan Brouwer is professor of General Law at the RUG. He focuses on issues of public order and safety and talks about his research.
The evening will be led by Leonie Sinnema, reporter for Dagblad van het Noorden. After the lectures there will be room for questions. Please keep your questions general. During the Public Academy there is no room to address personal issues.
