Public Academy lecture 'Fighting divorce' 10 February 2016
When: | We 10-02-2016 19:00 - 21:30 |
Where: | Academy Building, Broerstraat 5, Groningen |
The fourth Public Academy for Jurisprudence will focus on the topic of fighting divorce.
Every year, approximately 70,000 people divorce. In about 10% of the cases this results in a fighting divorce. In a fighting divorce, the divorce is so conflictual that the interests of the ex-partner and the children are completely lost sight of. What needs to be arranged in a divorce? When should alimony be paid? Who gets the house? What is the position of the children? These are questions that will be addressed during the Public Law Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016.
Prof. mr. W.D. Kolkman, Professor of Private Law at the RUG, will approach the issues mainly from the financial perspective: (partner) alimony and division of marital property. From the North Netherlands District Court, family and children's judge D.J. Klijn will be present. She will discuss the consequences for the children and the possibilities the judge has to prevent escalation of the conflict between the parents. Naturally, there is also room for questions.

The Public Academy for Jurisprudence
Through lectures aimed at the general public, the Publieksacademie voor de Rechtspraak (Public Academy for Jurisprudence) seeks to satisfy this immense interest. Judges, public prosecutors, professors and other experts discuss legal topics that affect many people. The lectures are suitable for a wide audience and do not require knowledge of the law.
The Public Academy is a collaboration between the Court of the Northern Netherlands, the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen, the Northern Netherlands Public Prosecution Service and the Dagblad van het Noorden newspaper.
