Public Academy lecture 'DNA in criminal cases' 20 April 2016

The DNA database is an important tool in crime detection and prosecution. So what does DNA say? Are you an immediate suspect when your DNA is found somewhere? How does a judge assess DNA traces? These are questions that will be addressed during the Judiciary Public Academy on Wednesday 20 April 2016.
Ing. I. Jullens, forensic investigator with the Police North Netherlands will introduce this evening about forensic investigation and explain what the field entails. She will also discuss the role of DNA in criminal cases based on a concrete case.
Judge J. van Bruggen from the District Court of Northern Netherlands will be present. He talks about the usefulness of DNA in court cases, and more specifically how the judge in criminal cases deals with DNA as evidence.

Judges, public prosecutors, professors and other experts discuss legal topics that affect many people. The lectures are suitable for a wide audience and do not require knowledge of the law.
The Public Academy is a collaboration between the Court of the Northern Netherlands, the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen, the Northern Netherlands Public Prosecution Service and the Dagblad van het Noorden newspaper.
