Edwin Woerdman launches new idea of tradable earthquake certificates
Minne Dulleman en Dr Edwin Woerdman have invented a new market instrument to compensate for the earthquake damage that occurs in Groningen due to the extraction of natural gas. Earthquake certificates give home owners a right to yearly compensation by NAM (Shell/ExxonMobil) and the government, for both property damage and degradation of living space. These certificates are tradable within the Netherlands to stimulate the illiquid housing market in the province of Groningen. Woerdman has been interviewed by Radio Noord (Dutch).
