Establishing a sanctions network
'Sanctions Network' was established by members of the Faculty of Law (Ramses Wessel, Viktor Szép), Arts (Francesco Giumelli) and Business and Economics (Tristan Kohl). The basic objective was to bring together scholars working on sanctions and to strengthen synergies between the institutions.
This network mainly aimed to organise a workshop that took place between 22 and 24 November 2022, with over 30 participants from all around Europe. The workshop allowed the participants to present their work and to discuss future cooperation possibilities.
This has lead to the 'Sanctions Group' in the Rudolf Agricola School that includes 8 members from 3 different UG faculties (Arts, FEB and Law). The aim of this research group is to continue the interdisciplinary activities at the UG. Also, as a subsequent activity, the researchers continued their cooperation with their international partners through MINOS which is a new network for the interdisciplinary understanding of EU sanctions. MINOS is run by Ghent University and the UG is a partner of that new network.
Apart from the fund that the researchers received through the incentive fund, the project also received financial support from the Illicit Trade Group.
