Prof. Bert Marseille appointed member Review Committee on Experiments in Administration of Justice

On Friday 30 June 2023, Bert Marseille, professor of Public Administration at our faculty, was appointed a member of the Review Committee on Experiments in the Administration of Justice. Together with six others, he will be advising Minister of Legal Protecion Franc Weerwind on proposals for experimental procedures in civil courts.

Members of the Committee

The Judicial Experiments Review Committee consists of a chairman and six members. Vino Timmerman, Professor of Commercial and Financial Law at Erasmus University Rotterdam, will serve as chairman.

In addition to Marseille and Timmerman, the Committee will consist of the following members:

  • Kees van den Bos, Professor of Social Psychology and Empirical Legal Science, Utrecht University
  • Maureen Turina - Tumewu, project supervisor External Scientific Policy Research, Scientific Research and Documentation Centre
  • Louis Visscher, Professor of Law and Economics, Erasmus School of Law
  • Marijke ter Voert, Professor of Empirical Legal Studies, Radboud University Nijmegen
  • Mies Westerveld, Emeritus Professor of Legal Aid, University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Centre on the Legal Professions and Access to Justice.

Appointment and ultimate goal

The Dutch Council of Ministers decided to appoint the Committee and its members, on the recommendation of Minister Weerwind. The Committee is established under the Temporary Experiments in Justice Act. The ultimate goal is to investigate in practice which measures promote simple, quick, effective and de-escalating dispute resolution.
