NNHRR organizes a two-day research conference
On 29 and 30 June 2023, the NNHRR (The Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research) is organizing their annual research conference in Groningen: the Toogdag. The central theme is the discussion on the past, present and future of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.
Promoting joint research
The NNHRR is a partnership of multiple Dutch universities aimed at stimulating joint research in the field of (international) human rights. Prof. Brigit Toebes and Dr Antenor Hallo de Wolf represent the UG within the NNHRR. Hallo de Wolf will be co-organizing the Toogdag, and in this role he will be working together with colleagues from Maastricht..
The programme
On 29 June 2023, there will be a roundtable discussion about the impact the UDHR has had in the last 75 years. Several working group sessions will also be held and special guests will be present. The follow-up to the working group sessions will take place on 30 June 2023, and will include presentations given by several NNHRR PhD candidates.
Submitting presentations and call for papers
To ensure that the programme will run as smoothly as possible, the organizers are calling for presentations and papers to be submitted on time. This appeal is primarily meant for NNHRR PhD students, but other participants are also welcome to submit work on the following topics:
- AI and human rights
- Non-state actors
- Sustainability and access to energy supplies
- Fight against corruption
- Rights of future generations
Interested NNHRR PhD candidates and others are kindly invited to submit their abstracts (no longer than 400 words) to both Dr Antenor Hallo de Wolf (a.g.hallo.de.wolf rug.nl) and Medes Malaihollo (a.malaihollo rug.nl) before 5 May 2023. Based on the submitted abstracts, the organizers will select the presentations and/or papers which can be presented at the Annual Research Day and inform the interested authors by email by 19 May 2023, at the latest. After the event, the presentations and papers will be compiled and published.
