LLM Energy and Climate Law Students met Representatives of the European Commission in Brussels

On 19-20 March 2018 students of the LLM Energy and Climate Law visited Brussels under the supervision of Dr. Ruven Fleming. The two-day trip was part of the course Energy Investment and Trade Law within the LLM Energy and Climate Law.

The students met at the Secretariat-General of Benelux-countries in Brussels . The Director of the Internal Market and Economy section of the Secretariat-General Jan Molema and his staff presented the mission and vision of the Benelux with a view to energy and climate issues and presented the latest initiatives of the Benelux states in that area.

This introduction was followed by a talk of Niall Lawlor, Coordinator for trade-related energy issues at the Directorate General Trade of the European Commission shared his insights on EU external energy policy from a trade law perspective with the group. His presentation was followed by a talk of Jeffery Piper, senior political analyst at the Directorate General Energy of the European Commission, who approached the same topic from an Energy Law perspective. At the end of their presentations the speakers shared valuable insights into their personal working-routine and discussed career options at the European Commission with the students.

The two day trip was part of the LLM Energy and Climate Law curriculum.
