Dr. J.A. Nijboer
Jan Nijboer is associate professor in Criminology in the department of Criminal Law and Criminology at the University of Groningen. He was trained in sociology of education and subsequently in criminology, graduated cum laude MA, and received his PhD at the University of Groningen on the thesis “Predicting Recidivism. Predictability of recidivism in cases of serious criminality”. He is lecturer and researcher at the University of Groningen since 1971, has been ad interim director of the Criminological Institute of the university of Groningen (1991-1995), and editor of the Dutch Journal of Criminology (1994-2001). He teaches crime and criminal justice, methodology of evaluation, youth criminology, and penology, and received the Nestor award for the best teacher in a digital learning environment at the University of Groningen. He conducted research on several criminological topics, e.g. longitudinal research on youth criminology, non custodial sanctions, football hooliganism, trafficking in human beings, violence, theoretical research, and recently on expert registers in criminal cases.
