Prof. Dr. Dr. A.L.B. Colombi Ciacchi
Aurelia Colombi Ciacchi is professor of Law and Governance and academic director of the Groningen Centre for Law and Governance at the University of Groningen since October 2010. She studied law at the universities of Trieste (Italy), where she graduated in 1994, and Kiel (Germany), where she achieved her LL.M. degree in 1997. She took a first doctorate in comparative environmental and economic law at the universities of Trieste and Bergamo in 1998, and a second doctorate in comparative criminal law at the Bucerius Law School (Hamburg, Germany) in 2004. Between 1995 and 2000 she worked at the University of Kiel, then between 2000 and 2010 at the University of Bremen and its Centre for European Law and Politics (ZERP). Between April 2004 and May 2005, she was a Marie Curie Fellow of the European Community and conducted research at the University of Oxford. Between 2000 and 2010, she (co-)coordinated a number of European research projects and networks. She (co-)edited six books in the field of comparative and European private law, of which three were published by Cambridge University Press and one by Oxford University Press. Although most of her publications pertain to the field of European private law, she also published some books and articles on environmental law and substantive criminal law. Many of her works deal with the horizontal effect of human rights and constitutional rights in private law.
