Lars Hendrikman appointed new Director of the University Museum Groningen
Lars Hendrikman is the new Director of the University Museum of the University of Groningen (UG). He will be taking up his new role as from 1 July 2023. He will be succeeding interim director Franck Smit, who is retiring. Previously, Hendrikman served as a curator of ancient art at the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht for 15 years.
Hendrikman studied and taught art history at the UG until 2005. In his role as curator, he always sought cooperation with other museums, such as the strategic alliance ‘Rijksmuseum Maastricht’ and partners in Belgium and Germany. He is looking forward to being Director of the Museum: “The University Museum is a wonderful place. I enjoy coming back to Groningen and see an important role for me at the intersection of academia and the museum field. I believe I will be able to fulfil that role well.”
About the University Museum
The University Museum's collection covers four centuries of university science history and consists of numerous objects, photographs, works of art, and documents. The museum also manages art objects in the Academy building, such as the collection of professor portraits in the Senate Chamber.
Recently, the new exhibition PHALLUS. Norm & Form opened, which takes visitors on a journey through our ideas about gender, sex, science and norms. The exhibition was previously shown at the Ghent University Museum.
You can find the University Museum at Oude Kijk in ‘t Jatstraat 7, in the centre of Groningen.
