Education Guide: Six UG top degree programmes, one of them best of the Netherlands
The Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities 2023 has awarded a Top Degree Programme label to six UG Bachelor’s degree programmes, thus marking them as belonging to the top of Dutch academic education. The UG occupies fifth position in the 2023 Broad Classical Universities category.
The Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities 2023 awards the Top Degree Programme label to Bachelor’s degree programmes that score a total of 75 or more points (out of 100). The best Bachelor’s degree programme in the Netherlands, with no less than 97 points, is Global Responsibility and Leadership, offered at Campus Fryslȃn.
The other five UG Bachelor’s degree programmes that made it to the Dutch top according to this norm are
- Archaeology (89 points)
- Theology (86 points)
- English Language and Culture (83 points)
- Classical Studies (83 points)
- Minorities & Multilingualism (77 points)
A degree programme can also be the best in a category of similar programmes, without necessarily being designated top degree programme. Another four UG Bachelor’s degree programmes scored best in their category:
- Linguistics (74 points)
- Media Studies (74 points)
- Human Movement Sciences (69 points)
- Artificial Intelligence (60 points, shared first position with Maastricht University and University of Amsterdam)

The new Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities 2023 is due to be published on Thursday 24 November, and includes new figures on the success of degree programmes, new data concerning the labour market, and an overview of all university Bachelor’s degree programmes expected to be offered in the 2023/2024 academic year. The Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities is published on a yearly basis by the Centre for Higher Education Information (CHOI, Centrum Hoger Onderwijs Informatie), and intended for secondary-school students and deans who want to explore university Bachelor’s degree programmes.
