Visit UG building projects Feringa Building and Faculty of Law on Saturday 18 June

Every year, members of ''Bouwend Nederland' open up small and large construction and infrastructure projects to the public during the national Construction Day. This year, the construction sites of two building projects of the University of Groningen are open to the public as well: Feringa Building and Faculty of Law (Oude Boteringestraat 18). Everyone is welcome to visit the construction projects on Saturday 18 June 2022 during the festive Construction Day.

Feringa Building | 10.00 - 15.00 hours

Contractors Ballast Nedam and De Groot-Lammerink Installatie will open the construction site of the impressive Feringa Building in Groningen: the new education and research building for the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the University of Groningen. The building designed by Ector Hoogstad Architecten is characterised by a lot of glass and will have the shape of three interconnected V-wings. The building will house around 1400 students and 850 staff members. Besides office and lecture rooms, the building will also house a wide range of special laboratories, including physical, (bio)chemical and vibration-free labs.

Unique moment to visit the building site
This is a special moment to visit the Feringa Building: the enormous air cushion roof above the atrium is expected to have just been installed. Furthermore, the contours of the interior spaces (laboratories, offices, classrooms, etc.) are clearly recognisable because many interior walls have been placed. The facade contours are also more and more panels of the characteristic 'wybertjes' facade.

During the tour, you can visit the building via a set route. Of course, coffee, tea and lemonade will be ready for you! A unique opportunity to walk around on a building site where access is normally prohibited. You are welcome between 10.00 and 15.00 hours.

Faculty of Law | 10.00 - 13.00 hours

The conversion project at Oude Boteringestraat 18, where contractor Visser & Smit Bouw is busy making the former Public Library suitable for the Faculty of Law, will also be open to the public during the Construction Day.

The biggest changes to this former library building are the addition of a fourth floor, a new patio for more daylight in the previously dark library spaces, the addition of a bicycle entrance and its integration with an existing side entrance. The building will house a practice court for law students, various teaching rooms and plenty of space for meeting people. More about the design (impressions and video).

At the moment, openings are being made in the large floor areas so that more daylight can enter the building. See also this video:
