04 March 2020

This year, the Aletta Jacobs Award will be granted to Ms. Khadija Arib. The University of Groningen grants this award once every two years to an academically-educated woman who makes a case for women’s rights and emancipation, both nationally and internationally.

Ms. Arib is the current speaker of the Dutch House of Representatives. She is also one of the founders and former chairwoman of the MVVN, the association for Dutch women of Moroccan descent. She has been granted this award for her important contribution to the position of Moroccan women in the Netherlands, as well as her inspiring role as the first female speaker of the House with a migratory background.
