Results of University elections 2017
On the afternoon of Monday 22 May, Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken announced the results of the 2017 University Elections for staff and student members of the University Council, and the various Faculty and Service Councils within the University of Groningen.
The announcement in the Bruins Room in the Academy Building was well attended. The audience heard that the student turnout for the elections for the University Council was 28.1 % this year. That is an increase of only 0.2 % over 2016. Turnout among staff was 30.7 % (0.1 % more than in 2015; there were no staff elections in 2016).
As of 1 September 2017 the division of students seats in the Council will be as follows:
- SOG 5 seats (1 less than in 2016),
- Lijst Calimero, 5 seats
- and the new DAG party has 2 seats
In 2016 Lijst Sterk had 1 seat.
The division of staff seats is as follows:
- Staff party: 9 seats
- Science party: 3 seats

The elections for staff and student members of the University Council and the various Faculty and Service Councils within the University of Groningen were held in the period between 9 a.m. on Monday 15 and 5 p.m. on Friday 19 May 2017 and the results were finalized by the Central Voting Office on 22 May 2017.
