18 May 2017

The results of the National Student Survey (NSE) organized by Studiekeuze123 have been announced. Thirty-five percent of students at the University of Groningen completed the NSE – that is just over 10,000 students. They assessed their degree programme with a 4.07 on a scale from 1 to 5, and the atmosphere within the degree programme with a 4.14. The UG scored above average on study environment, facilities, student workload and timetabling compared with the national results.

The average assessment of Master’s students (n=3,284) were significantly higher on certain points than in 2016. In particular, the UG scored above the national average on information provision, student workload, study facilities and lecturers. The overall satisfaction of Master’s students regarding career preparation has also improved since 2016.

The international students at the UG (n=1,192) are more satisfied this year about lecturers, information provision, academic skills, placement opportunities and career preparation. They also give higher scores on new points such as internationalization and challenging study programmes than non-international students.

All 10,051 students rated 17 aspects of studying. Each of the aspects comprised two or more subquestions. The UG scored between 3.5 and 4 on 13 aspects (including content, skills, study progress supervision, examinations, lecturers and size of group). These are good results. Positive and negative marks that stand out are those for size of group/class (4.04) and career preparation (3.05, respectively.
