New app provides up-to-date information about sustainable energy production in the Netherlands
Information on the production of sustainable energy is now available in real time at a single location. The website www.energieopwek.nl shows exactly how much wind, solar and biogas energy is being produced in the Netherlands at any specific moment in time. The information can be viewed on a PC, tablet or smartphone via a web application that was co-created by the University of Groningen Geo Services. TenneT, Netbeheer Nederland, Gasunie New Energy and Entrance presented the app to Ed Nijpels, chair of the Borgingscommissie Energieakkoord [energy agreement quality control committee], today.
The app, which was developed on the basis of expertise available at Entrance (Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen), shows how many megawatts of sustainable energy from wind, solar power and biogas are actually being produced every day. ‘It shows at a glance how much sustainable energy is being produced in each province at any moment in time, and also how much energy was generated in a previous period. Geo Services built the interface, implemented the underlying model and linked the model to weather data provided by the KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute)’, says Govert Schoof, senior project manager of Geographic Information Systems at the University of Groningen.
