University of Groningen moves up again in prestigious Shanghai Ranking list
The University of Groningen has moved up again in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (also known as the Shanghai Ranking), now to 75th place. Last year the University of Groningen already moved up a staggering 10 places from 92nd place to 82nd place. This is the third year in a row that the University has made a jump in the ARWU, which is generally considered the most reliable quality measurement of universities worldwide.
The ARWU is a list of the global Top 500, published annually in August by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Because the list is based on clear methodology and objective data, it is regarded as the most reliable in the academic world. ‘The fact that we have significantly improved our top 100 position again is an indication that we are on the right track to strengthen our position as a world-renowned international research university’, says Prof. Sibrand Poppema, President of the Board of the University.
The universities of Utrecht (57 to 56), Leiden (77 to 82) and the VU University Amsterdam (100 to 98) are in the top 100 along with Groningen. Just as in previous years, the list is headed by Harvard University.
