University of Groningen remembers victims MH17

23 July 2014

On this day of national mourning the University of Groningen remembers the victims of MH17. Special thoughts go out to our first year medical student Emma Essers who together with her father, mother and brother was on board the flight, and to one of our students and one of our staff members who lost their immediate family. The flags of the university buildings have been lowered to half-mast and this afternoon at 4pm a minute of silence will be observed.

A memorial has been created for Emma Essers at the Medical Faculty, where you can also sign the condolence book.

Tonight at 8pm representatives of the Board of the University will be present at the silent march held in honor of the victims. Employees and students of the University have been informed and are invited to join the march. The start will be at the Ossenmarkt.
