IBM creates 350 new IT jobs in Groningen
The province and municipality of Groningen, the Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, the University of Groningen, the University Medical Center Groningen and IBM announced today that over the next three years they will be creating 350 new IT jobs in a new Services Center in the city of Groningen. The ‘IBM Services Center Groningen’ is the result of a unique partnership that will give the northern region an extra economic boost. The recruitment procedure will start at the first ‘ IBM Career event ’ on Wednesday 26 June 2013.
Sibrand Poppema, President of the Board of the University of Groningen, is delighted that IBM has chosen to start a new Services Center in Groningen. ‘This partnership will offer talented students and young academics more opportunities to find their first job in Groningen after graduating, for example graduates of our programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Computing Sciences and Industrial Engineering and Management. We have recently decided that all of these programmes will be taught in English from now on. This dovetails perfectly with the wishes of a multinational like IBM and offers our students the chance to grow within the company.’
According to Poppema, research at the University will also profit from the close cooperation with IBM. ‘Research projects that rely on astronomical amounts of data, such as Target, Lofar and LifeLines would not be possible without the expertise of IBM.’
