Students publish their own academic journal

18 June 2013

Thursday 20 June will see the publication of the first issue of Honours Review, a new journalistic-academic journal published by Honours students of the University of Groningen. The journal, developed on the example of the well-known student journal Harvard Law Review, offers talented University of Groningen students an interdisciplinary platform to share the results of their academic work with each other as well as with the academic community and the wider public.

Honours Review can be compared with a very high-quality science supplement in a newspaper’, says Dr Kees de Vey Mestdagh, lecturer and advisory member of the board of editors. ‘The articles discuss academic and social issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. The quality of the first issue is very high, definitely something the University of Groningen can be proud of.’

Wide range of topics

Honours Review is a compilation of articles written by students of the University of Groningen Honours College. The first issue comprises articles on a wide range of topics, from biological characteristics as possible predictors of criminal behaviour to the arduous Italian search for a national identity in relation to the heavily criticized Roman monument Il Vittoriano.

Presentation of first issue

The first issue will be presented in a ceremony on Thursday 20 June, from 8-9 p.m. in the Heymanszaal of the Academy Building. It will appear both on paper and online, on the website honoursreview.nl. Honours Review will be published several times per year.
