Open Day on Location at the University of Groningen

Thorough introduction to up to four degree programmes
14 February 2012

On Friday 17 February, over 5000 secondary school students will visit the Open Day on Location at the University of Groningen, where they will be offered a thorough introduction to up to four degree programmes. To participate in the Open Day, registration via www.rug.nl/studiekiezers is required.

For as far as possible, the various degree programmes will be presented in the buildings where they are actually given, all across Groningen. Prospective students can also visit the information market, learn about the Honours College, follow a workshop on choosing a degree programme, visit the open office hour of the student counsellors or take a city walk.

Bachelor’s degree programme presentations

Follow to a lecture, chat with senior students, lecturers and study advisors, visit the University Library, a laboratory or computer room, perhaps meet the very people you’ll be studying with next year. Gain an impression of the city of Groningen, where you might be living for four or five years – or even longer – sometime soon. Soak up information and taste the atmosphere – that’s what it’s all about at the Open Day on Location at the University of Groningen on Friday 17 February.

All the Bachelor’s degree programmes at the University will participate in the Open Day on Location. Prospective students can visit up to four degree programmes – two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Of course information will also be provided about the Master’s degree programmes that follow the Bachelor’s degree programmes at the University of Groningen.

Information market

How do I apply for university? What are the exact ins and outs of student finance? What are the latest developments on ballot systems and selection procedures? Is it difficult to find accommodation? Does Groningen have a fun introductory period? And which student associations are there? These and any other questions will be answered at the information market from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the Academy Building.

Honours College open house

The University of Groningen has an Honours College for outstanding students, with quarters in the Academy Building tower. Secondary school students are welcome to drop in between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., where current Honours students will be happy to provide more information.

Choosing a Degree Programme Workshop

Another thing you can do on the Open Day is visit a workshop on choosing a degree programme. Who are you, what are your strengths, what do you want? What should your ideal degree programme incorporate? These types of questions are dealt with during the workshop.

Student counsellors’ open office hour

Anyone who would like a quiet chat with a student counsellor on choosing a degree programme, studying with a disability, financial affairs or anything else of a private nature are welcome between 12 noon and 2 p.m. at the Student Service Centre, Uurwerkersgang 10.

City walks

And finally, there are limited places available to take a walk around the city centre, led by University of Groningen students.
