Title: Erythropoietin in heart failure. Effects beyond erythropoiesis
Promotor(s): prof. W.H. van Gilst, prof. D.J. van Veldhuisen
Faculty: Medical Sciences
Heart failure is a serious disease with a poor prognosis, often occurring with co-morbidity including anemia. The focus of this study was to unravel the mechanisms of erythropoietin (EPO) in heart failure. The general outcome of the study is that the positive effects of EPO in heart failure are related to other mechanisms than its role in the formation of red blood cells.
