Prof. Pauline Westerman becomes KNAW member
The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has chosen 27 new members. Four of them are associated with the University of Groningen.
The elections take place annually and are based on academic performance, with members being proposed by the academic community. Members of the Academy are prominent academic researchers, working in all fields of scholarly research. The new Academy members will be installed on Monday 13 September.
The new members are:
Humanities and Social Sciences Division (humanities, law, behavioural sciences and social sciences)
- Prof. Hans van der Plicht (1951), professor by special appointment in Isotope Chronology, University of Groningen, and professor by special appointment in Isotope Archaeology, University of Leiden
- Prof. Pauline Westerman (1957), professor of Philosophy of Law, University of Groningen
Science Division (mathematics and physics, life sciences and technical sciences)
- Prof. Hein de Baar (1949), professor of Oceanography, University of Groningen; senior researcher at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research
- Prof. Thomas Palstra (1958), professor of Chemistry, University of Groningen, director of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials
