From 1978 to 2003 the ethnological collection of the University of Groningen was exhibited in the Museum of Ethnology Gerardus van der Leeuw. When the museum was closed in 2003, the collection was combined with the collections of the University Museum. The ethnological collections contains more than 8,000 objects from all corners of the globe and consists of four large component collections.
