Open access agreement with Wiley
The Dutch universities and publisher Wiley have reached an agreement which gives researchers of the universities the possibility to enjoy unlimited open access publication in approximately 1,400 journals of this publisher, without paying publishing charges. Authors need to choose this open access option in the publication process. It is compliant with the NWO grant requirements.
Open access publishing with Wiley as a result of the agreement between UKB/VSNU and this publisher (2016 – 2019) will start as of 4 March 2016. Corresponding authors of Dutch universities should indicate, when their article has been accepted, that the article must be published in open access. This goes without extra charges for the authors.
Authors need to choose this open access option in the publication process. At the moment an author receives a message that his or her article has been accepted, the Wiley “author services pages” show how the author can select this option (see screenshot).
The APC (“ article processing charge”) is also presented on this page. The author needs to select in the drop-down menu (Funder / Institution payment) his or her Dutch university, thereby indicating that the APC is covered (via the UKB/VSNU agreement).
This option to publish in open access is possible in 1,400 hybrid journals and is part of the big-deal contract (which covers in total 1,500 journals) between UKB/VSNU and Wiley. It is compliant with the NWO grant requirements. The workflow and 1400 hybrid journals can be found on a dedicated page of Wiley.
Wiley also publishes 60 full open access journals; those are not covered in this agreement.
