Biography

Henriette Mariette Augustine Albertine Kapteyn was the second daughter of J.C. Kepteyn and C.E. Kalshoven. She was born in Groningen. Over the course of her life, she was married twice. Her first marriage was with the astronomer Ejnar Hertzsprung. They were married from 1913 to 1937 and had a daughter together: Rigel Hertzsprung. At this time, Henriette was also writing a biography of her father. Her second marriage was with Joost Hudig, a chemical engineer and Professor at Wageningen University. Hudig had two children, who became Henriette’s stepchildren. At this time, Henriette published a biography about H.C. Andersen.

Acquisition

The works were bought by Groningen University Library in 1999, through the mediation of Professor K. van Berkel.
