Biography

Johannes de Haan (Bakkeveen, 1884 – Bakkeveen, 1952) was a professor of histology and microscopic anatomy in Groningen. In 1919 he was named a lecturer in biology, later moving on to teach physiology. In 1930, he was offered the professorship in the disciplines of histology and anatomy. His dissertation, from 1920, was titled Bijdrage tot de kennis der levensverschijnselen van witte bloedlichaampjes (additional studies into the lifecycle of leucocytes). His inaugural lecture in 1930 was entitled De weefsels in en buiten het lichaam (tissues in- and outside the body).  His studies are widely published, both within the Netherlands and abroad.

The archive was gifted to the University by B. Globus-de Haan, Niehove.
