Library card and subscriptions
Library Card The following target groups are entitled to a free University Library Card:

Former employees of the University of Groningen whose employment ended due to the flexiblepension and retirement scheme (FPU), retirement or occupational disability (WAO)
-
Staff of other Dutch universities, affiliated with UNL
-
Students of other Dutch universities, affiliated with UNL
-
Students of the Senior Academy (HOVO).
Application procedure
Applications for a library card can be made at the UB City Centre Library Support Desk from Monday to Friday during office hours (until 5 p.m.). To acquire a library card, applicants must bring a valid ID, i.e. a passport, identity card, driver's license or an annual public transport pass (OV-jaarkaart). Staff from other Dutch universities must bring a statement of employment as well as valid ID. Students from other Dutch universities must bring both a valid student card and valid ID. OU students must bring an OU card, proof of registration and valid ID.

Subscriptions
Those who wish to use the University Library but are not eligible for a free library card can choose from several subscription options:

University Library subscription: €45 a year - after first year, one month's notice.

The Martini Card (access to university libraries and Forum Groningen - Public Library). Please contact the Public Library.

The business card: €100 a year (after first year, one month's notice)
N.B. These subscription options do not include distance access to the UG’s electronic files, journals and e-books. Those are only accessible within the UG network. Payments are only possible with a debit card.
Hanze University
Hanze University students who want to borrow books from the University Library have to buy a subscription (see above); the Hanze University will refund half of the subscription price. Employees of the Hanzehogeschool receive no compensation and pay the regular subscription price.
Day Card
For €2.50, a day pass provides local access in the study hall to materials from the closed stacks during incidental visits. A day pass can be purchased from the Library support Desk from Monday to Friday during office hours (8:30 a.m-5 p.m.) with valid ID. Payments are only possible with a debit card. You will be asked to leave a security deposit or your valid ID.
Please also note and take into account that retrieving publications from the repository usually takes 3 hours, and in some cases even longer. Please contact us before your visit.
