About Arombe

Hi everyone! My name is Arombe, I am 19 years old and currently doing my second year of Minorities & Multilingualism (also known as M&M). Alongside studying, I love reading, playing basketball, and baking!

Why Minorities & Multilingualism?

I chose to study Minorities & Multilingualism because as a person who is part of several minority groups, I thought that this programme would help me understand myself and the world better (which it has!). The programme is made up of a mix of local, international, and exchange students, meaning that there is a safe space for everyone from different backgrounds to respectfully and confidently share their perspectives. Generally, we are a small group which is perfect because we make up our own little family - this further provides more opportunities to participate in class. M&M is a programme that tailors to everyone's interests as it is so broad within the respective fields of minorities and multilingualism, which means that there is always something new to learn.

Why Groningen?

While the vibrant student life made this city very attractive, this programme is exclusively taught at the University of Groningen which intrigued me even more. Groningen can quickly feel like home when you are surrounded by other students and like-minded people. Combined with the drive and motivation you have for your study, this city is a great place to live in!

Future

I am currently unsure of my future career path, however, I know that I would love to have a focus on minority groups as my personal experiences and this study have highlighted many struggles minorities face. Therefore, I would love to help invoke change by helping as many people as I can by applying my knowledge from M&M.

Golden Tip

My biggest tip would be to choose a study that interests and excites you. Ultimately, you are the one studying and working towards getting the degree so try not to let others influence your decision. There are so many opportunities and career paths to take after your Bachelor’s. Take everything one step at a time and focus on what you can control, and the rest will fall into place. Quick heads up, you will be asked “What do you do in Minorities & Multilingualism?” a lot but this is a chance to show off your cool course! Overall, have fun, live in the moment, and smile!!
