Faculty Council
About the Faculty Council
The Faculty Council is the formally elected participatory body of the Faculty of Arts. Its main tasks include advising and overseeing the Faculty Board on education, research policies, and the faculty's financial management, ensuring alignment with the needs of the faculty community.
While the Faculty Board makes final decisions, council recommendations are considered alongside other inputs, such as university-wide policies and budgetary constraints. In specific cases, such as proposed changes to the Faculty Regulations or certain aspects of the Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER) for individual programmes, the council holds the right of consent.
The Faculty Council is part of the broader employee participation at the RUG, together with the programme committees, among others.

Members
The Faculty Council has 18 members:
-
9 staff members, elected for a two-year term
-
9 student members, elected for a one-year term
The council’s Praesidium consists of a chair (a staff representative) and a vice chair (a student representative). Elections are organized according to RUG’s Electoral Regulations and take place in May. Students can stand for election annually in early March, staff once every two years. Terms of the Faculty Board begin on 1 September of the election year.

The Faculty Council meets regularly with the Faculty Board. These meetings are open to the public unless otherwise decided. The agenda and public documents are available on the faculty intranet.
