The second edition of the Arts Festival postponed to 2021

Due to the measures that have been taken by the Dutch government concerning the novel coronavirus, it has been decided that the Arts Festival will not take place this year. The festival – intended as a festive ‘meeting’ between the Faculty of Arts and the Groningen community – is expected to fail to match, let alone exceed, the success of the first edition last year. For that reason, the Faculty of Arts plans to organize the second edition of the festival in the late summer of 2021.

Because of the coronavirus, almost all UG events that would have taken place during this period are cancelled, rescheduled, or converted into an online event.

Popular scientific festival
Last September, the Faculty of Arts organized the first edition of the Arts Festival. It turned out to be an excellent opportunity for many to get acquainted with the world of the humanities in an accessible way. During the festival, Groningen city residents, (potential) societal partners, and other interested parties discovered how diverse, dynamic, and innovative the humanities are and what their value is for our society.

Diverse programme
During the Arts Festival, researchers give workshops and mini-lectures and festival-goers can participate in scientific experiments, demonstrations, and exclusive tours. In addition, there is ample opportunity to talk to the researchers - a great opportunity for new collaborations or to start projects together. The Harmony building and the squares around it in the ‘Oude Kijk in 't Jatstraat’ and the ‘Uurwerkersgang’ are transformed into a scholarly festival terrain. In addition, to the substantive programme, there is live music to listen to and plenty to eat and drink at the food trucks and an outdoor bar.

The organisation is looking forward to a second edition of the festival in 2021. More information about the programme and the line-up of the Arts Festival will follow in due time .
