Imagine a world where healthcare providers can focus on providing the best care for their patients while integrated Large Language Models (LLMs) assist with all other necessities.

With an aging population and healthcare costs rising, innovation in the healthcare system is needed to increase productivity and provide patients with the care they deserve. As healthcare professionals increasingly leave the industry due to heavy workloads, integrating LLMs into healthcare systems offers potential relief. However, there are major challenges ahead in effectively leveraging these advanced AI technologies to improve healthcare outcomes, from diagnostics to patient care.

During the MIT Hacking Medicine Groningen edition, participants are set to tackle this challenge head-on. Participants will form interdisciplinary groups to tackle one specific problem within the healthcare space using AI as part of their solution. During the event, the participants will be asked to create a pitch that can convince a jury of experts that their solution can have a great impact and is economically viable. To tackle all aspects of a good solution, the participant will get help from mentors who are experts in the fields of healthcare, AI, ethics, and business. Also, there will be workshops that can provide insights in skills and knowledge useful of tackling healthcare problems.

This hackathon will take place from November 29th to December 1st in Groningen, in collaboration with the University Medical Centre Groningen (UMCG), the University of Groningen's Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society Technology and AI, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The event will be held at the House of Connections in Groningen and will start Friday, November 29th, at 16:00. Both Saturday, November 30th, and Sunday, December 1st, the event starts at 9:00. During the event the participants will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and enough coffee to last the day. Participants are asked to find accommodation on their own.

We welcome students and professionals of all backgrounds. No coding or medical degree necessary, our events are made stronger with patients, with designers, with entrepreneurs, and engineers…with you. We aim to get a diverse group of people together to ensure the interdisciplinarity of the participants of the hackathon. Therefore, we will accept people on a rolling basis. We have limited availability for this event, so please don’t hesitate to sign up.
