New schedule for disconnecting the building ventilation system in the Linnaeusborg

We have now scheduled new dates for the maintenance work on the eighth and ninth floors of the Linnaeusborg, which had to be temporarily postponed. Various jobs need to be carried out and the building’s ventilation system will be temporarily disconnected.

To minimize nuisance, we have scheduled the disconnections of the building ventilation system during a couple of evening hours and on two full days during the winter break.

The entire Linnaeusborg will be closed throughout the day on:

• Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 December 2020, during the day and night (work will be carried out for 48 hours).

Reason: disconnection of the central air extraction system for the entire Linnaeusborg (with the exception of building wing 5174, the greenhouses and the isotope lab in the basement of building wing 5172) making it unsafe for people to be in the building. The air supply system for building wing 5172 (bridge) will also be disconnected.

The entire Linnaeusborg will be closed in the evenings on:

• Thursday 3 December 2020, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Thursday 17 December 2020, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
• Thursday 14 January 2021, from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Reason: disconnection of the central air extraction system for the entire Linnaeusborg (with the exception of building wing 5174, the greenhouses and the isotope lab in the basement of building wing 5172) making it unsafe for people to be in the building. The air supply system will not be disconnected.

Other scheduled maintenance work and possible nuisance:

Crane

On Friday 20 November, along the Linnaeusborg road plates will be placed for a crane. On Monday 23 November materials will be hoisted up through the roof hatch. The same will take place on 4 January.

Possible noise nuisance

• As of 23 November 2020, in about two weeks, the atrium at the elevator on the north side will be closed with scaffolding. Although the construction work will be carried out with great care, it can cause some nuisance, particularly during the first few days. The corridor area on the lab side near rooms 831 and 833 will be blocked by part of the scaffolding construction. The relevant room numbers will only be accessible via adjacent rooms.
  
• As soon as the scaffolding is ready, adjustments to some of the steel supports and expansion of the ventilation ducts will be started immediately on the ninth floor. Here, too, some noise nuisance may occur over a longer period of time.

Air quality after the ventilation system has been disconnected

Several staff members have asked about the air quality in the building once the ventilation system has been disconnected. We can tell you that the air quality will be up to standard by the time that you enter the building in the morning. The building will be safe – as well as COVID-19 safe – to enter.

We are aware that the work on the ventilation system may cause some inconvenience. We are trying to keep any inconvenience to a minimum by planning the work in the evenings and during the winter break. We hope that you will understand and will cooperate with us.
