Also the last UG examination room in Aletta Jacobshal will be converted for digital exams

The last 'analogue' examination room in the Aletta Jacobshal on the Zernike Campus will be made suitable for digital exams as of early February 2024. The demand for digital exams is still increasing within the UG, and in order to get ahead of a capacity problem, 600 new extra workstations for digital exams will be created in Exam Hall 1. The total capacity of the Aletta Jacobshal will therefore go up to almost 1800 digital testing spaces.

The construction work will start immediately after the end of the first semester's exam period on Saturday 3 February. At the end of April 2024 the construction work is finished. Then the new exams tables will be installed and the functionality checked. From the second examination period in June 2024, the new testing facilities will be put into use.

What will be modified in Hall 1?

The existing top floor will be completely rebuilt. The insulation layer, floor heating, covering layer and floor covering will be renewed in a few weeks, only now with cable ducts and floor boxes in it for electricity and data cables. A new control room and an expansion of the server room are also being built. Finally, there are modifications of the access doors to the existing control rooms of Exam Halls 2, 3 and 4.

Limiting nuisance

Unfortunately, construction nuisance cannot always be avoided, but it is limited as much as possible. For example, demolition work that can cause noise nuisance is mainly carried out in the early morning, evening hours or weekends. Work is also carried out with electrical equipment that causes hardly any noise nuisance. During the construction project, classes will continue to be held in other parts of the Aletta Jacobshal.

Construction site layout

To bring the work to a proper and safe execution, a construction site will be set up both inside and outside the building. Dust and noise protection measures will also be installed inside the Aletta Jacobshal. On the outside, space is needed for containers and construction traffic, among other things. For this reason, parking lot P0 will be reduced in size and will temporarily accommodate about 30 fewer cars. The location of the rental cars will also be temporarily relocated on P0.
